Throughout On The Brink, Barbara interprets overlooked classics, standards that are often recast in surprising ways, and four original tunes written especially for this album.
Because Barbara's voice has always blended particularly well with guitarists, this is a piano-less set with a prominent role for the guitar, featuring three masters of the instrument: James Chirillo, Howard Alden and Ray Machiarola.
This new group displays the beauty of Barbara's voice and features a pair of jazz giants who are both distinctive and versatile. Trumpeter Randy Sandke and Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon. Bass players Boots Maleson and Joel Forbes and Drummer Joe Ascione round out the distinguished ensemble.
For the past three years Barbara has been touring with The Harry James Orchestra; most recently at the prestigious Montreal Jazz Festival. Barbara has performed with the late Les Paul at The Iridium, and with the Woody Allen Band at The Carlisle Hotel, as well as directing her own New Yorkers. She has been recognized by NPR, Scott Yanow's "Great Jazz Singers," and Backstage Magazine (Bistro Award, 2006)
